BRIDGEPORT — City schools will be closed starting Friday and at least through next week.

Acting Schools Superintendent Michael Testani made the call Thursday afternoon as school districts all around him were doing the same. Both Fairfield and Stratford schools announced they were closing. Westport, Wilton and Weston schools announced they were closing Wednesday in response to the coronavirus.

Bridgeport had already anticipated closing early on Friday to do a deep cleaning of schools.

Parents are asked to check the Bridgeport Public Schools to see when schools will reopen. School office will remain open.

Testani said officials will be working on a plan to feed students who normally rely on the district’s breakfast and lunch program. Later Thursday, the district released a list of 21 schools that will be open from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on weekdays during the closure.

The schools include Barnum, Batalla, Black Rock, Blackham, Bryant, Columbus, Cross, Curiale, Hall, Hallen, Harding, Hooker, Johnson, Marin, Multi-cultural, Park City, Read, Roosevelt, Tisdale and Winthrop.
